Each year Kent Area Council PTA presents a Golden Acorn Award(s) to
a person who has given exemplary volunteer service to children and
youth in our school community. The Golden Acorn Award is very
special and is given for continued and dedicated service. This is
an excellent way to honor PTA members for their contributions to
this association. Because we are proud of this association and its
volunteer service to children and youth, our first consideration
should be to honor members of our PTA.
The Outstanding Service Award is given at the Council level of PTA.
It is awarded to an individual who continues to give extraordinary
volunteer service to children and youth. They continue to give of
their time and talent on behalf of children not only in their community
but beyond.
When we present a Golden Acorn Award or an Outstanding Service Award,
that individual is given a special gold pin and a certificate.
Council contributes $65 (for Golden Acorn) and $90 (for Outstanding
Service) in the person's name to the Washington State PTA Financial
Grant Foundation. This Foundation provides scholarships each year
totaling $55,000 to high school graduates entering their freshman
year at college, university, or vocational school.
The Outstanding Educator Award is given to recognize
individuals who have provided outstanding educational opportunities
for children and youth that are beyond the normal scope of
their jobs.
In 2004, the Washington State PTA established the
Outstanding Advocate Award, a new statewide volunteer recognition
program to recognize and honor individuals for their advocacy work on behalf
of children and youth. This award can be given by a PTA unit, council,
or region. Recipients receive a certificate and pin and a contribution
is made in their name to the WSPTA Financial Grant Program.
Spirit of the Community is an award that recognizes
outstanding service to the children and youth in our community.
This award is usually presented to a non-profit organization or an
individual.
